title: Interface and themes
description: Personalize mpvRx themes, player animations, browser layouts, and per-orientation controls.
---

mpvRx combines Material 3 Expressive surfaces with controls that can be reorganized independently for portrait and landscape playback.

## Appearance

- Choose from more than 25 built-in palettes, including Dynamic color, Catppuccin, Nord, Tokyo Night, Rose Pine, Gruvbox, and Dracula.
- Enable the AMOLED variant for pure-black backgrounds.
- Keep player controls dark independently from the rest of the app.
- Select a control transition: Default, Elastic Bounce, Cinematic Scale, Slide Up, or Minimal Fade.

Dynamic color follows the supported Android system palette. Fixed themes are useful when you want the same appearance across devices.

## Player layout

Assign actions to top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right, and portrait-bottom zones. Keep high-frequency controls near the edge reached by your normal grip, and move infrequent actions into the More sheet.

:::tip
Configure portrait and landscape separately. A comfortable phone layout often becomes too sparse on a tablet or landscape display.

## Browser layout

Local video and music views can use grids or lists with orientation-specific column counts. Album view emphasizes media groups; Tree view exposes filesystem hierarchy. Tablet layouts can place folders or settings beside their detail content.

## Safe areas

Window offsets and display-cutout behavior keep controls clear of camera notches and system areas. Use full-bleed only when the device and content benefit from it.
