mpv configuration

Edit mpv.conf and input.conf safely, use profiles, and recover from problematic options.

mpvRx exposes mpv’s configuration model without requiring every user to manage text files. The built-in editor supports mpv.conf and input.conf with syntax highlighting.

Start from an empty file

A reliable workflow is incremental:

  1. Confirm the media plays with the app defaults.
  2. Add one option or one profile.
  3. Reopen playback when the option is startup-only.
  4. Compare behavior and the statistics page.
  5. Remove the option if it does not solve a measured problem.

Profiles

Use named profiles to keep specialized settings from affecting every file.

[low-power]
profile=fast
vo=gpu

[anime-upscale]
glsl-shaders-append=~~/shaders/Anime4K/example.glsl

The shader path above is illustrative. Select a shader that exists in your configured folder or use mpvRx’s built-in shader controls.

Input bindings

input.conf maps keys and input events to mpv commands. Keep custom bindings distinct from app gestures and generated custom-button messages.

SPACE cycle pause
RIGHT seek 10
LEFT seek -10

Recovery

If playback fails after an edit:

  • Temporarily empty mpv.conf.
  • Disable user scripts and custom shaders.
  • Restore automatic decoding and rendering.
  • Reopen the same media.
  • Reintroduce changes one at a time.

This isolates configuration errors from codec, driver, and source failures.
