Build from source

Build mpvRx with the Gradle wrapper and select a distribution flavor.

Requirements

  • JDK 17
  • Android SDK and current build tools
  • Git
  • The repository’s Gradle wrapper

Clone the repository and run commands from its root.

./gradlew :app:assembleStandardDebug

On Windows PowerShell:

.\gradlew.bat :app:assembleStandardDebug

Product flavors

Flavor Gradle task prefix
Standard assembleStandard...
No Vulkan assembleNoVulkan...
FongMi assembleFongmi...

Examples:

./gradlew :app:assembleStandardRelease
./gradlew :app:assembleNoVulkanRelease
./gradlew :app:assembleFongmiRelease

The mpv native libraries are resolved from the pinned mpvlib release declared in gradle/libs.versions.toml. Gradle caches downloaded artifacts, so they do not need to be copied into app/libs/ for each build.

Limit architectures

The app build supports a targetAbi property for focused development builds and an enableX86 switch. Without an override, the build includes ARM architectures and enables x86 targets according to project defaults.

Release signing

Public release workflows require repository secrets for the keystore, alias, store password, and key password. Never commit a keystore or credentials. Local unsigned release output is not equivalent to an official signed release.

Before submitting a change

Run the focused checks for the touched area, then the relevant flavor build. Changes to shared playback, networking, databases, or release wiring deserve broader validation than a documentation-only change.
