Jellyfin and Navidrome
Connect media servers, browse remote libraries, and understand direct streaming and account behavior.
mpvRx can use Jellyfin for video and music libraries and Navidrome or another compatible Subsonic server for music.

Jellyfin
The Jellyfin client provides artwork-rich library browsing, continue-watching rows, filters for movies, shows, anime, music, and box sets, season and episode selection, and server-synchronized favorites.
Playback can use direct streams or server transcoding. The result depends on server configuration, exposed streams, selected audio/subtitle tracks, network bandwidth, and device decoder support.
Add the server
Enter the reachable Jellyfin server URL and authenticate with your account.
Choose a library
Browse the server’s available libraries and open an item or episode.
Check the playback path
If direct playback fails, verify the server can transcode the source and that its public URL is reachable from the device.
Favorites update the Jellyfin account’s UserData.IsFavorite state. Continue
watching and recently watched depend on server progress updates, so clock,
account, and reverse-proxy problems can affect them even when direct streaming
works.
Navidrome and Subsonic
Navidrome connections use the Subsonic API. mpvRx supports multiple named servers, token-and-salt authentication, music search, recently added albums, quick mixes, artists, albums, server playlists, and synchronized favorites.
Sign in with username/password or a supported app password/token. Select one saved server as active for the Music tab. Starred songs appear in Favorites; album and artist starring depends on server API support.
Some compatible Subsonic servers implement only part of the API. Missing discovery or favorite behavior may be a server capability difference rather than a playback failure.
Connection checklist
- Use the base server URL reachable from the Android device, not a web-player subpage.
- Verify TLS certificates and reverse-proxy paths outside mpvRx.
- Confirm the account can browse and stream the same item in another client.
- Distinguish authentication, catalog, artwork, favorites, and playback failures.
- Test the local network URL before diagnosing remote-access or VPN behavior.
Account safety
Credentials and tokens remain sensitive even on a local network. Do not paste them into issue reports. When reporting a problem, include the server product/version, whether the same item works in another client, and whether the problem affects browsing, authentication, artwork, direct playback, or transcoding.
