Build variants
Choose between Standard, Play Store, No Vulkan, and FongMi distributions.
mpvRx has three native playback profiles. The Play Store distribution reuses the Standard profile with policy-specific storage, permission, and update behavior.
| Variant | Choose it when | Packaging |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | You want the recommended build and normal Vulkan-capable playback path. | Universal and architecture-specific APKs may be available. |
| Play Store | You install through Google Play and want the Standard engine with scoped storage and Play-managed updates. | Universal APK on GitHub releases; Android App Bundle for Google Play. |
| No Vulkan | Vulkan is unavailable, unstable, or unnecessarily expensive on the device. | Universal APK. |
| FongMi | You specifically need the alternate native MediaCodec/Vulkan integration. | Universal APK. |

When playback fails
- Reset custom
mpv.conf, shaders, and decoder overrides. - Retry the same file in Standard.
- If the failure is Vulkan-specific, test No Vulkan.
- Use FongMi only when its alternate native path addresses the device or codec behavior.
- Report the exact variant and media codec information if all builds fail.
